Web Content Strategy - Give Your New WCMS Some Love |
|
So you have a nice shiny new Web Content Management System (WCMS). If you are working on a fairly large or complicated site, I'll bet that there are more than a few bugs still in the system. It's too slow, some of the forms are overly complicated, and you are even getting some unexpected and unpredictable output.
So you have a nice shiny new Web Content Management System (WCMS ). If you are working on a fairly large or complicated site, I'll bet that there are more than a few bugs still in the system. It's too slow, some of the forms are overly complicated, and you are even getting some unexpected and unpredictable output. At this point you probably don't have many nice things to say about your new toy. Do yourself a huge favor and, for the most part, keep your complaints to yourself. Certainly give the developers and earful and get the bugs worked out as quickly as possible, but don't tell everybody you pass in the hall how much you hate the new WCMS. I know it is hard to believe now, but it won't always stink and you really don't want to poison the well. I learned this one the hard way. We did too much complaining when the system was delivered about how slow it was and hard it was to use. So now, when I go ask for CMS help from outside of my department, everybody runs screaming in the other direction even though the system is now pretty smooth. We really have no one to blame but ourselves, we made it sound like a huge nightmare and now everyone is afraid. So whenever anyone asks you about your new system, tell them it's great and if they are lucky they might get a chance to play with it soon. When the crunch comes, and you need some extra hands, you will be glad you did. |
