Effective Website Tips - Forget the Graphics, Make it Work |
|
You want a website that works for your customers or visitors. You want it to plain and simply work to make you money. Always remember there is so much more to a successful website than just the graphic aspect. This article contains information about what you need to make you website work.
One of the goals of for all my company's projects and clients is emphasize website effectiveness. Many of my clients when first coming to my consulting firm want me to focus on the appearance and overall look of the website. Again I am not trying to discredit the importance of a quality look, but I always make sure that my focus lies with developing a project that will be effective. Website effectiveness,, in my opinion has virtually disappeared from the web world and makes the difference between the good and the bad. Which is extremely unfortunate. With so many development companies that simply flaunt their graphic talent many people forget about the other aspects of the project. There is just so much more to developing a website than graphics. When designing a site, the focus should be on providing the visitor with a quality experience, easy navigation, superior information, and, of course, making sure the visitors can find the page in the first place. Making the website effective is simply more important than making it ascetically pleasing. You want your visitors to come back, making your website attractive is a plus, but most likely your visitors are coming to your website for more than a visual experience. They are looking for something, whether it be information, a product, or a service. Whatever it may be, you must make sure your visitors are getting what they want fast, efficient, and most of all, effectively. So how do you make your website effective? Simple, be sure that your visitors have everything they need for a quality experience. There are plenty of strategies you can use, which are discussed in my company blog, but regardless the principle of Website Effectiveness is simple. Take a step back and be sure that your visitors are getting what they need. If you aren't sure of what you need, I recommend finding a quality web consulting company that can analyze your audience and determine what they are looking for. Sometimes having an outside perspective can remind you of what you need and get you thinking outside of the graphics of your site. Once you have determined what your visitors want, you can determine what is missing and create a strategy to solve those problems. Not making your website effective can have large negative consequences. A website that isn't effective risks a sharp drop in visitor returns over time. A website that isn't easy to navigate will force visitors to find an easier website to use. A website without good information will send visitors to a new direction. As you can see the consequences are alarming, especially when your business relies on the page to generate traffic. Don't let website effectiveness hold you down. |
